The Ontario Soil and Crop Improvement Association (OSCIA) is pleased to announce the winners of the Habitat in Focus Farm Photography Contest, which ran July through September 2016. The contest invited residents across Ontario to submit pictures showcasing on-farm habitat for species at risk.
Modelled after the Species at Risk Farm Incentive Program (SARFIP), habitat protection and creation Best Management Practices (BMPs) supported through SARFIP were key subject matter for the contest. As patchwork landscapes, farms provide valuable plant, fish and wildlife habitat including grasslands, pastures, stream banks, wetlands, and woodlands.
The first place winner was Carrie Woolley of Simcoe, who submitted her picture entitled “Pasture Plant Diversity”. Ms. Woolley was the recipient of a Canon EOS 70 DSLR Camera Kit with EF-S 18-55 IS STM, valued at $1,700.
The second place winner was Anne Loeffler of New Hamburg, who submitted her picture entitled “Nith River morning”. Ms. Loeffler was the recipient of a $300 GoPro Hero3 Waterproof HD Sports & Helmet Camera Bundle.
The third place winner was Donna Rogers of Kitchener, who submitted her picture entitled “Stormy skies with splashes of colour”. Ms. Rogers was the recipient of a $150 Henrys Gift Card.
