Cat. 01 Improved Manure Storage and Handling
Relevant BMP Practice Codes: 0101, 0102, 0103, 0104 and 0105
Improper storage and handling of manure can lead to increased risk of impaired water
quality. A 30% (to max. of $30,000) cost-share incentive is available to qualified participants
to bring existing livestock operations up to 240 days of properly designed storage.
Components to Application:
Complete a Third Edition EFP and have it peer reviewed
Complete Project Proposal Application (available from your local OSCIA
County Program Representative
)
Demonstrate an OMAFRA approved Nutrient Management Strategy (NMS) or Plan (NMP)
Read the Background Eligibility Information (attached to Project Justification and Assurances Form) (PJAF)
Return the completed and signed Project Justification and Assurance Form(PJAF) - A (for storages) or A(1) (for pumps etc)

Costs to build liquid or solid manure storages to 240 days storage for livestock inventories as of April 1, 2008.
Transfer systems from edge of barn to storage

Applicant Responsibilities:
Read and adhere to Construction Guidelines (as required)
Obtain an OMAFRA approved NMS/P
Complete the appropriate PJAF
Obtain all building, siting, and design permits or approvals that might be required and ensure that the proposed project complies with all Municipal, Provincial and Federal Regulations
Project Requirements:
Projects in this category are not designed to support expansion of livestock numbers.
Manure storage projects must be designed to bring manure storages up to 240 days or as required in an approved NMS/P for existing livestock.
Manure storage capacity built for the expanding portion of an operation must be excluded from the cost-share application. It will be the responsibility of the applicant to provide all information about livestock numbers and manure storage capacities that exist on the farm before and after the proposed project. In the calculation of prorating for expansion the applicant may require several MSTOR calculations to document existing herd/flock requirements to 240 days, distinct from post expansion requirements.
