Cat. 03 Improvements to Manure Land Application Systems

Relevant BMP Practice Codes: 0301

Specialized modifications to equipment that encourage uniform low level
application or incorporation of manure can potential reduce risks of impaired
water quality. A 30% (to max. of $10,000) cost-share incentive is available to
qualified participants to upgrade equipment to include specialized incorporation
and uniform application components.

Special limits of eligibility:

If the farm business received $1,500 or less in total federal cost share for a
project(s) in practice code 0301 through the previous program, they are entitled
to participate in the new practice code 0301 to the category cap. If the farm
business received greater than $1,500 in federal contribution in practice code
0301 through the previous program, between April 1, 2005 and March 31, 2009
they are not entitled to receive any additional federal cost share in practice code
0301 in the new program.

Components to Application:

• Complete a Third Edition EFP and have it peer reviewed
• Complete a Project Proposal Application (available from your local OSCIA County Program Representative)

Eligible Expenses. Eligible expenses include, but may not be limited to:

• See detailed Project Eligibility Policy and Procedures
• Conversion of existing application equipment or components of new equipment that is unique and required to achieve improvements in liquid manure application. These include: injector openers, sub-canopy applicators, hoses and delivery system, frame to support openers/applicators, and spreader tank agitators.
• Specialized modification to solid manure spreaders (e.g. Vertical beaters or rear spinner units) for more uniform application than standard equipment component).
• Specialized modification to enable better estimates of application rates: e.g. flow meters, rate control devices (manual and variable rate
