Evaluating cover crops ability to carry N to subsequent field crop (2006-2008)

This project is funded by the Adaptation Council of Canada to evaluate the potential for cover crops in Ontario to hold N over winter, thereby reducing potential N leaching into the environment. Each of the sites will test a cover crop after winter wheat harvest that will be compared to a “red clover” and a “no cover” standard treatment. Manure and non manure treatments will be investigated to determine the ability of cover crops to trap and hold manure N for nutrient release in subsequent crops.
