Hello Friends of SCCC,

This year National Soil Conservation Week (NSCW) is celebrated between April 15th and 21st. SCCC looks forward to spreading the word about soil care to the Canadian public and we need your help to promote its importance during NSCW.

Here are a few examples of this year’s NSCW activities you can take part in or share with your networks:

National Soil Your Undies Challenge – Last year we launched a national campaign called Soil Your Undies to encourage Canadians to actively learn more about soil health with a hands-on, do-it-yourself soil science experiment. It was a hit and got the attention of families, schools, and media in both rural and urban communities. We were thrilled by the response from Canadians. It really showed us that soil conservation and health is of interest to everyone. So, this year we are doing it again, and we want your help to make it an even greater success. Attached to this email is a toolkit that provides suggestions on how you can take part in the campaign at home, at school, or even at work! We encourage your participation in this fun and educational campaign.

The 2018 Healthy Agricultural Landscape Photo Contest – Launching during NSCW and running until the end of October 2018, we invite the public to submit their best photos showing good stewardship of soil, air, water and biodiversity of Canada’s agricultural landscape. A panel of judges will select the top photos and winners will be announced later this fall. Winners will receive a one-year free membership to the SCCC and a $100 gift card.

Social Media – SCCC has a robust social media campaign planned to spread the word on soil conservation and health. Add your voice to the conversation by including @soilcouncil and #cdnsoilweek18 in your tweets.

Advocate for soil care – As a friend of SCCC, we hope you take the opportunity NSCW provides to speak with friends, neighbours or local media about soil conservation and health. Within the toolkit are several pieces of information you can use for those occasions.
Please visit soilcc.ca for more information on NSCW and other SCCC activities.

Thank you for your interest in the Soil Conservation Council of Canada and the sustainability of Canada’s soil resources.

Warm Regards,

Alan Kruszel
Chair
Soil Conservation Council of Canada
