Routinely, we would like to highlight some initiatives that producers have implemented to solve an issue/make things easier/more efficient. If you know someone who has built something unique, or is progressive in their thinking about a particular issue, we want to know!
In this issue we are highlighting a side dresser that Mike Christie of Bruce County built.
It is a 12 row side dressing unit that Mike built for his 4710 sprayer.
Mike described it as –
“It is a pretty basic machine. I took an old 12 row scuffler and stripped it down to just the tool bar. Then I built some drop legs down and mounted Ausherman fertilizer openers on the bottom. I then found and old front 3pt hitch of a 6000 John Deere that I modified to fit onto the front of my 4710 sprayer. The plumbing was very simple to run from the back boom and easy to program into the rate controller.”
Perhaps this can provide you with some inspiration.
