Every regional Soil and Crop Improvement Association in Ontario has a dedicated Regional Communications Coordinator, or RCC. The RCC role has a number of responsibilities, including writing articles for the regional content section of the Innovator, working with local association secretaries to make sure membership lists are up-to-date, and helping with meetings and events.
The RCC for the Northeastern Ontario Soil and Crop Improvement Association is the Northern Ontario Farm Innovation Alliance (NOFIA), which is a somewhat unique arrangement as most RCCs for other regions in Ontario are individuals rather than organizations.
NOFIA’s mandate is to advance agriculture across Northern Ontario through applied research, tech transfer, business development and education. NOFIA does this through building and strengthening partners in industry, government and academia to complete projects that provide information farmers need to be successful in Northern Ontario.
Emily Potter and Cam Ford are NOFIA’s primary staff who deal with RCC matters. Emily is NOFIA’s Executive Director and comes from a beef farm in the Earlton area. Cam is NOFIA’s Project Development Advisor and comes from a primarily sheep farm in the Powassan area.
The RCC can also help develop any projects or ideas that the Northeastern members may have. Whether that’s a research project, an event idea, or simply an article suggestion on an interesting topic, NOFIA would be happy to hear about it.
