Join producers from across the province in making economic, environmental and protection and assurance improvements to your farm business by participating in the Canadian Agricultural Partnership (the Partnership) cost-share funding opportunities.
This three-part video series, which is available in both official languages, explores the different stages of the cost-share process, from identifying the right cost-share opportunity for your farm to submitting an online application with success. In last week’s edition of Grassroots Matters, we introduced Part One of the series on navigating OntarioProgramGuides.net.
In Part Two, you’ll meet Rick DeBackere, an Ontario market garden producer and owner of DeBackere Farm Market in Union, ON. His story will guide you through six tips to completing a cost-share funding application.
Like many fruit and vegetable farms, labour accounts for a large portion of productions costs—in DeBackere’s case, it’s nearly 60 per cent. That’s where the Partnership cost-share funding can help. After exploring the Online Program Guide, DeBackere successfully applied for the Technology and Equipment to Improve Labour Productivity project category to purchase labour-saving asparagus harvesting equipment.
Tip number one is to familiarize yourself with the specific requirements and criteria for your desired project category. The Technology and Equipment to Improve Labour Productivity category, for example, required that DeBeckere submit a labour productivity plan, which demonstrated how the equipment was new and novel and would improve labour productivity for his particular operation. Throughout the video, Debackere shares his experience with the application process, from accessing the eligibility criteria and minimum requirements to providing supporting documentation and applying electronically. DeBeckere also explains how OSCIA-delivered workshops, including Growing Your Farm Profits, can prepare producers to identify cost-share funding opportunities that align with their business goals.
